Dorothy Neomia Satchell, daughter of the late Brooks and Maude P. Bunting, was born on June 27, 1924 in Craddockville, Virginia. She departed this life on Monday, December 25, 2017.
Dorothy, affectionately known as “Ma Dot,” received her education in the Accomack County Public Schools and worked in a domestic capacity.
Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Boston, Virginia. She served her church faithfully in many capacities, including the church sexton, missionary, and the SBC Senior Choir. Dorothy loved to sing and was well-known for her beautiful voice; many folks came to Shiloh just to hear her sing. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Golden Leaf Club. Dorothy was united in Holy Matrimony with John T. Satchell, Jr. She will always be remembered for her great smile and kind words for everyone.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Satchell, Jr.; daughters, Diane and Paulette; son, Arcee; and grandson, Kevin. Dorothy was the last survivor of her seven siblings.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Bernard Pyron of Exmore, VA, James (Brenda) Pyron of Oak Hall, VA, and Alex (Emma) Satchell of Craddockville, VA; four daughters, Loretta (Ralph) Johnson of Craddockville, VA, Martha Geathers of Orangeburg, SC, Francina (Harry) Chisum of Craddockville, VA, and Melissa Satchell of Olney, MD; daughter-in-law, Rosa Pyron; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; thirteen great, great-grandchildren; special friends, Geneva Jubilee, Almeta Smith, and Cora Sample; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
