Obituary for Emanuel Edward "Weed" Parks

Emanuel Edward "Weed" Parks
Emanuel Edward Parks received his angel wings and was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. He was born on April 11, 1954 to Warner and Marguerite Parks in Accomac, Virginia.

Emanuel was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools. After completing his high school education, he joined the United States Marine Corp. Emanuel was a member of Macedonia AME Church, where he gained his early teachings. There, he learned the true meaning of the “Golden Rule” and what it meant to be of service to others. At Macedonia, he was a member of the Sunday School, a trustee, and a member of the Male Chorus. He also sang with the Gospel Lukettes and the Community Anointed Gospel Singers.

On December 16, 1978, he happily joined in holy matrimony to Doris Drummond. This union was blessed with two daughters, Deyonka and Caprise and one son, Keir.

He worked for Accomack County Public Works for over twenty-five years. In addition to working for the county, he worked many other jobs. He was a man of many talents and abilities and he used them often. He was a carpenter, painter, plumber, and an electrician. His favorite pastime was gardening and he was very meticulous when doing yard work for others. When he felt that a job wasn’t done to his satisfaction, he would go back over it, pulling out all weeds left behind. This led to his co-workers calling him “Weed.” Emanuel worked at Wharton’s Funeral Home and Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Inc.

Emanuel had a great sense of humor and was able to interact with anyone he came in contact with, and they truly enjoyed being in his presence. Emanuel loved to joke with people and would do favors for anyone. He was well known in the county and will be sorely missed.

Emanuel’s pride and joy was his family, especially the grandchildren, who called him “Pop Pop.”

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Julia Downing; three aunts, Sue, Bernice, and Thelma.

Emanuel leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Doris Parks; three children, Deyonka (Chenier) Chandler, Caprise Strand, and Keir (Kateiba)Strand; parents, Marguerite Parks and Warner Parks; seven grandchildren, Danyelle Strand, Jayden Chandler, Isaiah Chandler, LaVonte’ Neat, Shani Farquharson, Markhajha Farquharson, and Khymarrii Farquharson; three brothers, Wendell Parks, Sr., Wayne Parks, and Randall (Dornecil) Parks, Sr.; four uncles, Lewins Dunning, Kenneth (Dale) Dunning, Robert (Marie) Matthews, and Reginald (Judy) Fosque; two aunts, Sherry Thomas and Ester Ackins; one godbrother, Gregory Wise; five godchildren; two special sisters, Regina and Jeanette Kellam; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
