CATHERINE STRATTON CLAYTON "Poochie", daughter of the late Alfred Lee and Gladys Mable Townsend Stratton, was born on November 8, 1955. She departed this life on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, Onancock, Virginia.
She was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in Painter, Virginia in 1974. She was a dedicated member at Grace Independent Methodist Church in Wachapreague, Virginia, where she served as an usher, choir member, culinary committee, youth department, and any other areas she was needed. She worked for Perdue Farms in Accomac for thirty-five years until her retirement seven years ago.
Poochie was a people person, loved life, and cherished every moment she spent with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She gave her life to God many years ago and remained faithful to Him to the end. Poochie resided in Wachapreague, Virginia and lived there all of her life. Even with her various health issues she continued to live an active life and took great pride in taking care of her family and household. Poochie was a very determined person who overcame many obstacles in life to raise her children and teach them to always achieve high goals. She made many sacrifices for others, even giving her last of whatever she had to offer. She loved cooking for everyone and making her special sweet tea and macaroni and cheese. She enjoyed many hobbies, like watching her grandchildren, reading, cooking, baby-sitting, and taking care of her plants.
She leaves to cherish her memories: son, Apostle Andrew “AJ” Stratton, Sr. (Pastor Wanda); two daughters, Arkeva Stratton and Ikea Clayton; six grandsons, Elebeon, Andrew Jr., Jyell, Juni , Jayden, and Braylon; brothers and sisters, Edward (Evangelist Florence) Stratton of Wachapreague, VA, Pastor Alice Knox of Salisbury, MD, Hattie (Carlton) Giddens of Painter, VA, Elder Barbara Stratton of Onley, VA, and Gregory (Bernadette) Stratton of Wachapreague, VA; one brother-in law, Lloyd Burton, Sr. of Dale City, VA; three aunts, Ethel Stratton of Wachapreague, VA, Doris Byrd of Columbia, SC, and Mary (Emerson “June”) Crippen of Melfa, VA; three uncles, Jack (Sarah) Stratton of Philadelphia, PA, Darryl (Cynthia) Stratton of NJ, and Dale (Linda) Stratton of Parksley, VA.; her husband, Marvin Clayton; two godchildren, Mia Burton and Yazmeen “Yazzie” Stratton, godmother, Sarah Fisher; and many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A sister, Mary Burton; a brother, Alfred Milton Stratton, Jr., and sister-in-law, Margaret Amanda Stratton preceded her in death.
