Obituary for Angelo Phillip Francis Sr.

Angelo Phillip Francis Sr.
Angelo Phillip Francis, Sr., a retired waterman, transitioned from this life to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 26, 2017.

Born February 29, 1936, Angelo was the eldest son of the late Milon Virginia Beach and John Wesley Francis. Angelo was educated in the Northampton County public schools.

In 1958, Angelo met and married the love of his life, Hattie Mae Mears and from this union they had four children.

Angelo had a life changing experience of salvation over 20 years ago. He was a faithful member of The Eastern Shore Christian Center for 23 years. Every Sunday morning, he could not wait to get to church…and he did not want to be late. More importantly, he was not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He always shared his faith and even on his sick bed he was witnessing to make sure everyone he came in contact with came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Angelo (also known as Pop and Pop Francis) was truly knitted into his church family and he loved each of them as much as they loved him. Angelo was ordained as a deacon on January 28, 2007.

Angelo worked as a waterman for over 50 years where he caught crabs, fish, oysters, and clams. He loved his work and taught other waterman the art of being great in this vocation. He was a pioneer in the community and loved by all…and he knew EVERYBODY!

Angelo was an avid rabbit and deer hunter. Every Fall and Winter he made sure his rabbit dogs were well trained and ready to start on the journey of enjoying the sport of hunting with his hunting buddies.

Angelo loved spending time with his family and enjoyed cooking for them; he was a great cook! We will miss his cooking tremendously.

Continuing to cherish his precious memories are: his loving and faithful wife Hattie Mae Francis; his children, Nina Pamela Matthews, Salisbury, MD, Gale Devore Johnson (Carl), Woodstock, MD, Angelo Phillip Francis, Jr. (Aline), Sparta, WI and Kevin Modie Francis (Mozella) Parksley, VA. One brother and sister, Malcolm Francis and Rheba Francis Wharton. Also cherishing his memories are his grandchildren: Relford Marshall Matthews, Kaleesha Shaunte Francis, Angelo William Matthews, Brent Venson Johnson, Brian Phillip Johnson, Kierra Latisha Francis, Brock Wesley Johnson, Gregory Darnell Smith, Gabriel Lee Francis, Jasmine Terri Francis, Wally Francisco Barros-Francis, and Maria Clara Barros-Francis; three great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
