On March 25, 2017 at 10:30 am, the Lord in His infinite wisdom called our earthly angel, Josephine Davis Creech, to rest. Josephine, known as “Nanny,” was born the eldest daughter of Anne Davis Watson on March 7, 1943 in Keller, Virginia. Josephine was educated in Accomack County Schools and graduated from Mary N. Smith High School in 1961.
Upon graduation from high school, Josephine moved to Maryland where she got a job working for the Department of the Army as a Nurse at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, which serviced the military soldiers stationed in Washington, DC. She worked there until her retirement twenty-five years later. While living in Maryland, she was active in volunteering within the community and loved bowling in a local league, which she was instrumental in her team winning several years. On December 31, 1966, Josephine married Donald Creech and remained so until his death in 2002.
Josephine’s greatest love, other than the Lord and her husband, was her love of children. She loved being Aunt Nanny to all her nieces and nephews and many god-children.
Upon retirement from the Federal government, Josephine remained in Maryland until the death of her husband of thirty-five years. She then moved back to the Eastern Shore of Virginia to be close to her family and friends. She took in her great nieces and nephews after the unfortunate loss of their mother, Roshell Watson and cared for them through their graduation from Nandua High School. Josephine was a mother to Ronjae Watson, who was like a son to her. Josephine will forever be remembered for her great smile, her big heart, and endless generosity.
She leaves her legacy of love to: two sisters, Helen Finney of Painter, VA and Sally (Lloyd) Hicks of Millsboro, DE; three brothers, Sherwood (Teressa) Watson of Keller, VA, Elton Lee Davis of San Diego, California, and Alvin Garrison of Salisbury, MD; three sisters-in-law, Mazie (James) Williams of Steubenville, OH, Irene (Shelton) Scipio of Ft. Washington, MD, and Evelyn Platt of Steubenville, OH; two brothers-in-law, David and Melvin Creech, both of Steubenville, OH; and a host of nieces and nephews, god-children, cousins, and special friends.
