William Otis Davis, second oldest son of the late Jack and Lugenia Willis Davis, was born on November 22, 1938 in Thomasville, Georgia. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
William, also known as “Otis” or “Top,” lived in Cairo, Georgia, where he attended the public schools and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp to serve his country. He served for thirty years and retired as an E9 MGYSGT. During his tenure in the Marine Corp he served in Vietnam and Okinawa. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and Letter of Appreciation.
On June 22, 1963, he married Evelyn Strand Davis and this union was blessed with two children. He remained married to Evelyn until her passing on July 16, 2016.
In the 80’s Top owned and operated Top’s Grocery Store in Pastoria, Virginia, where the family worked together serving the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lugenia Davis; his wife, Evelyn Strand Davis; and brother, Joseph Davis, Sr.
William leaves to cherish his memory: his daughters, Ioron Davis-Frenia of Portsmouth, VA and Shawna D. Davis of Accomac, VA; his granddaughter, who was his heart and who he referred to as “The lady of the house,” Indyah L. Davis of Accomac, VA; four brothers, James I. “Butch” Davis of AZ; Robert E. “Bobby” Davis of Chase City, VA, Curtis A. “Alton” Davis of Ft. Valley, GA, and Jack O. “Jacko” Davis of Warner Robins, GA; two sisters, Carolyn J. Marshall of Ft. Valley, GA and Edna Perez of Atlanta, GA; eight brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
