Shelly Custis Allen, beloved son of the late Beadie and Bertie Bagwell Allen, was born on February 27, 1927 in Accomac, Virginia. God called his son Shelly to catch the early morning train from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 26, 2016.
As a youth, Shelly worked on the farm. Later in life, he was a truck driver for the local ice plant. He retired from Holly Farms.
In 1948, Shelly married Dorothy Savage. From this union five children were born, Bertie Mae and Darlene, who preceded him in death, Carlene, James, and Edgar. He was also the stepfather of Ronald.
Shelly gave his life to the Lord and joined Macedonia AME Church in Accomac, Virginia. He was a faithful member in good standing. He served as a Trustee, member of the Pastor’s Aide, and a dedicated usher. He also loved attending Sunday School.
Shelly loved to drive. He had a car service and enjoyed providing transportation for his cousins, Gladys and Annetta, and others who needed his services.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted and loving daughter, Carlene Jenkins of Onley, VA; sons, Edgar Allen of Onley, VA, James (Serita) Allen and stepson, Ronald (Louise) Savage, both of Baltimore, MD; brother, Ellis (Frances) Allen of Paterson, NJ; sister, Sue Pullen of Dublin, GA; two grandchildren, Marcus and Latarsha Allen; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
